These two buildings were once part of a wealthy abbey, founded in the 6th century. Brighten up from the 11th century, the church, the bell tower and the cloiter are still remarkable for their harmonious Romanesque sculpted ornementation.
These two edifices were once part of a wealthy, powerful abbey, founded in the 6th century. The church formed the chapel in King Boson’s palace late in the 9th century. During the 11 th and 12th centuries it was modified. With its semi circular apse framed by imposing columns and reused ancient capitals, along with a single unfinished nave its western part, the church is first and foremost remarkable for its Romanesque sculpted ornementation (capitals, pillars,
friezes, inscription giving the name of the person responsible for the work, etc...). The cloister, which dates from the 12 th century, is also richly decorated with pillars and sculpted capitals featuring floral elements, bestiaries and biblical scenes, in which the influence of ancient art may also be noted. Affixed to the walls is an outstanding array of tombstones (5 th – 12 th/14 th century).
Three rooms are set aside for temporary exhibitions organised throughout the year.
